Sunday P.M.    Christian Perspective of the Presidential Election of 2008    Nov 9, 2008
A Pastoral perspective of what the election results of 2008 means for Christians in this increasingly secular culture.
Four important principles are offered involving
1. The role of the Christian and the Church in this world.
2. The role of the Christian and the Church in the Kingdom of God.
3. The commission given to Christians and the Church in this world.
4. The Biblical relationship of the Christian and the Church to the governing authorities.
The character of the church has so substantially changed in recent decades as to suggest its inability to
respond biblically to the major shifts in cultural and political realities which we now see.
We must regain our biblical bearings if we are to avoid failure in the task as commissioned by our Lord Jesus Christ.

An Overview of the Book of Galatians
(This sample lecture gives an overview of the series)

The thematic emphasis of Galatians is justification by Grace alone, through Faith alone, by the work of Christ alone. This doctrine is under serious attack in the modern church, perhaps more so than at any time since the Reformation. But this time the opposition is not only blatant, but also extremely subtle. Ignorance of this doctrine, misunderstanding its tremendous significance, and naiveté about most doctrinal truths in general, is eroding this most fundamental and foundational of all Christian doctrines. Therefore, the message to the Galatians is critical for our day!

The Worship That Pleases God

The Redemption of God In All His Grace
With the sermon this morning I will continue the sermon series on The Worship That Pleases God. We find ourselves in the second major section in which I am developing the reasons why God is worthy of being worshipped. In this sermon we will consider the redemption of God in all His grace. Since God is the Redeemer of mankind, and your Redeemer, He is infinitely worthy of being worshiped. Therefore, we should worship God not only because of who and what He is, but because of what He has done as well. I will develop His great work of redemption in relation to man’s need and God’s promise; and then in relation to redemption accomplished and applied. I am hopeful that true worship will be genuinely promoted in our midst as we consider His mighty work of redemption on our behalf. May the Lord grant you understanding, and may He bless the preaching of His Word

The Works of God in All His Power
With the sermon this morning I will continue the sermon series on The Worship That Pleases God. We find ourselves in the first major section in which I am developing the reasons why God is worthy of being worshipped. In this sermon we will consider the works of God in all His power. Since God is the most powerful being in existence, He is supremely worthy of being worshipped. Therefore, we should worship God not only because of who and what He is, but because of what He has done as well. I will develop His great works in relation to creation in this sermon, and then His great work of redemption in the next one. I am hopeful that true worship will be genuinely promoted in our midst as we gaze upon the supreme magnificence of our glorious God, and as we consider His mighty works. May the Lord grant you understanding, and may He bless the preaching of His Word.

The Worship That Pleases God

The Person of God in All of His Majesty
We find ourselves in the first major section in which I am developing the reasons why God is worthy of being worshipped. In this sermon we will consider the majestic person of God in all His glory. Since God is the most majestic and glorious being in existence, He is supremely worthy of being worshipped. But we will not worship God rightly unless we know, at least in some measure, what it is that makes Him this kind of being. So I am going to develop the theme of God’s glory in two ways: that it is inherently within Himself, and how we can ascribe it to Him in worship. I am hopeful that true worship will be genuinely promoted in our midst as we gaze upon the supreme magnificence of our glorious God. May the Lord grant you understanding, and may He bless the preaching of His Word.

The Doctrine of Justification;

Justification- Communion With God;
Once again, as we come to the Lord’s Supper we remember His death and reflect upon its great significance in our lives. It also anticipates the future marriage supper of the Lamb when the entire company of the redeemed will feast together in the presence of our Savior. I am going to continue our current communion meditation series on the biblical doctrine of Justification. In the sermon today I want to concentrate upon, and draw your attention to “Justification: Communion With God.” As redeemed and justified sinners we now have peace with God, and as a result of that we have the privilege of enjoying God as a way of life. This is one of the wonderful benefits of being justified in his sight. May the Lord be pleased to grant us even greater understanding of this fundamental doctrine, and may we come to the Lord’s Supper in a profitable and edifying manner.

The Value of God in All His Being
We come now to the first major section in which I will develop the reasons why God is worthy of being worshipped. In this sermon we will consider the inherent value of God in all his being. Since God is the most valuable being in existence, He is supremely worthy of being worshipped. But we will not worship God unless we attach supreme value to Him, and Christians will not worship Him as they ought to unless they value Him above everything else. Although this principle may sound quite elementary, it is far more difficult to work out in our lives than we often imagine. In fact it accounts for much of the superficial worship that occurs every Sunday throughout the world. May the Lord grant you understanding, and may He bless the preaching of His Word.

What Really Drives True Christian Worship?
There are many things that drive worship in the modern church, most of which have no business even being associated with Christian worship. In this sermon I want to develop the theme of what it actually is that drives true Christian worship. There will be just two simple headings to drive home the point, each of which linked together form the core of true Christian worship. This is vitally important for us to grasp because we want to be “driven” in our worship in a manner that is consistent with the divine pattern. This sermon is still part of the introduction to the series, and it is an important part of the foundation I am trying to establish. So please reflect upon what is being said. May the Lord help you, and may He bless the preaching of His Holy Word.

The Worship That Pleases God

Whatever Happened to Reverence and Awe?
With this sermon I will continue the sermon series on The Worship That Pleases God. I want to now address a theme that is directly related to the first two sermons. I am concerned that one reason our modern worship is so shallow and superficial is that we have lost the true biblical fear of God. How could it be otherwise when we have such low views of Him; and such distorted views of Him; and, in some cases, just plain wrong views of Him. It just isn’t possible to have a true fear of God when we have such misconceptions about Him. So there is a need to know God in truth so that we might fear Him as we ought to once again. This sermon is still part of the introduction to the series and it is an important part of the foundation I am trying to establish. So please reflect upon what is being said. May the Lord help you, and may He bless the preaching of His Holy Word.

Justification: A Glorious Reconciliation
Our current Communion Meditation series continues on the biblical doctrine of Justification. Today I want to concentrate upon, and draw your attention to Justification: A Glorious Reconciliation. The sinner’s problem is that he is alienated from God. But in the redemptive work of Christ, God has reconciled to Himself all believing sinners. This is one of the wonderful benefits of being justified in His sight. May the Lord be pleased to grant us even greater understanding of this fundamental doctrine, and may we come to the Lord’s Supper in a profitable and edifying manner.

The Worship That Pleases God

God-centered or Self-centered Worship?
Having introduced this new series with the sermon: ”What’s Wrong With Worship Today? I want to now address a related theme as the sermon title above indicates. In this sermon I am going to ask and answer several important questions about the person of God, trying to provoke you to think seriously about Him. And then I will try to relate the answers to the theme of “God-centered” worship, identifying along the way what it is that hinders the modern church from being fully engaged in “God-centered” worship. This sermon is still part of the introduction to the series, and it is an important part of the foundation I am trying to establish. So please enter into the preaching moment and reflect on what is being said. May the Lord help you, and may He bless the preaching of His Holy Word.

#1 (First) in new series:
The Worship That Pleases God

What’s Wrong With Worship Today?
This sermon inaugurates the new sermon series on “The Worship That Pleases God.” There have been divisive “worship wars” in the Christian church ever since the so-called “Jesus Movement” and the introduction of what has become known as “contemporary worship.” As a result there has been a great deal of confusion about worship in the minds of many believers, while others are settled and have adopted a style preference that has become equal to the gospel in importance. A major problem I see, as I scan the landscape of the modern church, is that there is much talk about worship BUT very little worship that is truly “Theo-centric.” In the same way, there is much emphasis upon style and methods BUT very little worship that is truly “Christo-centric.” This series will address the issue of the nature of biblical worship. May the Lord bless His Holy Word.

A Concluding Gospel Invitation
This concludes our study of the book of Revelation. This section is a personal invitation by the Lord Jesus challenging whoever hears the words of this prophecy to come to Him and live. There is still time to repent. If sinners will but hear and heed the message they will be spared the worst destruction of all, the second death in the lake of fire. There is also a challenge for Christians to live obedient lives be
